Yesterday at 15 PM the PRT Commander, Col. Claudio DEI and the CIMIC Center Commander, Ltc Fabrizio ZACCHE’ have visited the WOMEN AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT of Herat City to check the building just refurbished by a local Construction Company thanks to the material donated by PRT for a total amount of 19.500 Euro
The PRT took up the project for a 8 classroom school near Zahkani village – Gurlan district, requested by the local authorities, in this instance by the Director of Herat Education Department, in order to improve the poor number of educational infrastructures nowadays present into the District.
The project, that has a cost of € 96.833, was constituted by a quadrangular plan building on one floor levels of 645 sqm. The classroom are developed along a central corridor, to simplify route and, eventually, building new classroom for students increase.
All around is build up brick masonry surrounding wall with inside playground, latrine building, generator rooms and external sewage system.
Concerning the structure, the building is made up of pillars and beams in reinforced concrete and walls of solid baked bricks of the traditional local type. The inner sides will be coated with plaster, so as to be proper for the purpose. The foundations are made up of plinths in reinforced concrete and continuous stonewalls below the beams connecting the pillars. The floor will have to be higher at least
The building has a well for 3 water supplies and is provided of an external sewage system. As there is no urban drainage system to connect to, the solution proposed, in conformity with the local system normally used, is a tank to be periodically emptied.

From March 2009 PRT has started 8 projects in Education sector most of which are still on going for a total amount of € 791.377. Until now PRT has completed the realization of a 8 classroom school in Niswan Nang Abad – GHORYAN District and the Hall in the Herat central library to exhibit sculptures and pictures; moreover PRT performed the renovation of an existing, old female school: the KHOJA MOHAMAD KANJANI High School in Siawashan – GUZHARA District in joint cooperation with “Cooperazione Italiana” that supplied with school equipment and other material for the schoolboys.
Altogether from year 2005 up today the Italian PRT has realized 34 new schools and has delivered equipment, for example chairs, table and teacher’s table, and other material necessary for children’s lessons
In 2010 the PRT is going to realize and refurbish 6 schools in various districts more a building for the Education Department in Herat for a total amount of € 1.054.000
The Commander of TASK FORCE “GRIFO” – Italian “Guardia di Finanza”, LTC Stefano IZZO and his Staff, with the cooperation of CPT DI MARCO from PRT/CIMIC in Herat, have visited the SABA SHAHID female orphanage, located in a remote and poor area of Herat City. The Institute gives shelter to 85 females of different ages. The visit has been a rare opportunity for all military present to know a cross-section of Afghan society, interacting and enjoying with the little afghan girls hosted in the Orphanage. The mood was happy and peaceful, the children were excited but polite and the military staff didn’t hesitate to carry on some of them and take a picture together.
The PRT took up the project requested by the local authorities, in this instance by the Director of Herat Rural Rehabilitation & Development Department, in order to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of the village of Naeeb Rafee inside the District of Injil, HERAT Province. The project, that has a cost of € 40.956, was constituted by the development of the Karize, a system of wells and canals that bring water to the villages, allowing the improvement, the effectiveness and the growth of the agricultural activity.
To realize the project has been required the following activities:
- development of 4 wells of the Karize with works of excavation and cleaning of the collapsed parts;
- reconstruction of the vertical auctions with circular rings in RCC and horizontal with elements always prefabricated elliptic in RCC, works of foundation with blocks prefabricated in PCC and RCC lintels;
