Inauguration of Karize By Italian PRT in Enjil District

The PRT took up the project requested by the local authorities, in this instance by the Director of Herat Rural Rehabilitation & Development Department, in order to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of the village of Naeeb Rafee inside the District of Injil, HERAT Province. The project, that has a cost of € 40.956, was constituted by the development of the Karize, a system of wells and canals that bring water to the villages, allowing the improvement, the effectiveness and the growth of the agricultural activity.The Kariz of Naeeb Rafee is around 40 Kms from Herat, it irrigates 200 hectares of cultivable ground and it’s been the only resource of water for 200 family nucleuses that has been forced to emigrate really because of the lack of such resource The village of Naeeb Rafee counts around 1.600 inhabitants and, it is situated to 1.093 m. of altitude.In detail, this Karize has 50 wells, from which the water is transported trough a canal to the village of Naeeb Rafee and to the fields around. Because of the erosion some wells of the Karize collapsed creating such a holes obstructed by the sediments brought by the wind especially in the summer season.

To realize the project has been required the following activities:

- development of 4 wells of the Karize with works of excavation and cleaning of the collapsed parts;

- reconstruction of the vertical auctions with circular rings in RCC and horizontal with elements always prefabricated elliptic in RCC, works of foundation with blocks prefabricated in PCC and RCC lintels;

- development of 1.200 meters of channel that bring the water to the village with works of excavation, cleaning and positioning of elliptic rings in RCC for the canalization of the water.
