New Projects by Italian PRT in Guzare District of Herat Province

Herat, November the 14^th 2009.

Today at 11 AM, took place the ceremony of one between the many projects that Italian PRT is realizing in Herat’s province. PRT, as a consequence of the security stabilization that happened recently in SIAWASHAN (GHUZARA District), took up a huge activity of reconstruction in that area following the request of local authorities, in particular by the local Shura. This activity focused on the construction of a 10 classroom school and renovation of an existing, old female school: the KHOJA MOHAMAD KANJANI High School more other small works of reconstruction (culvert, small bridges and a surrounding wall) for a total amount of € 133.300. The “Cooperazione Italiana” will take part in the project with the supply of the furniture for both schools. Thanks to that activity, PRT will give a contribution to a better quality of social-economical living conditions of the people and it will support the governance activity of the local authorities.In detail the new school, that has a cost of € 88.955 will be composed by a quadrangular plan building on one floor levels of 800 sqm. Concerning, the classrooms, these are developed along a central corridor, to simplify route and, eventually, building new classroom for students increase. All around is build up with brick masonry surrounding wall with inside playground, latrine building, generator rooms and external sewage system.

Concerning the structure, the building is made up of pillars and beams in reinforced concrete and walls of solid baked bricks of the traditional local type. The inner sides will be coated with plaster, so as to be proper for the purpose. The foundations are made up of plinths in reinforced concrete and continuous stonewalls below the beams connecting the pillars. The floor will have to be higher at least 15 cm than the ground level. The building has a well for water supply and is provided of an external sewage system. As there is no urban drainage system to connect to, the solution proposed, in conformity with the local system normally used, is a tank to be periodically emptied.Renovation of the Khaja Mohammad Kanjan High School, the biggest school in Siawashan village, located in Qala Aqa area, has a cost of € 25.763. The Italian Prt has completed the refurbishment of the roof (waterproofing layer), the electric net (supplying and installation) and has installed new doors and windows with internal and external plastering and painting works.The Italian Representatives were composed by PRT Commander, Col. Claudio Dei, the PRT CIMIC.C Commander, Lt. Col. Fabrizio Zacchè and Dr. Marco URAGO, Chief of Cooperazione Italiana in Herat.Local Authorities, constituted by H.E. Dr. Ahmad Yusuf NURISTANI the Governor of Herat province, Mr. Asiludin JAMI the Governor’s Executive Officer, Eng. Ziayudeen SHAR the Governor of Ghuzara’s District, Mr Ghulam Hazrat TANH Chief of Education’s Department of Herat and many others have shown, as ever, their appreciation for Italian Contingent’s performing in general and for Civil Military Cooperation in particular. All the local representatives have thanked Italian PRT for the extraordinary contribution to their Country’s reconstruction, with truly and deep appreciation words for Italian military’s operate in cooperation activities.
