Stone Foundation of School by Italian PRT

Herat, September the 14^th 2009.

Today took place the first stone ceremony of one between the many projects that Italian PRT is realizing in Herat’s province. The project officially started today is the construction of the new 16 classrooms school of Mirman Hayati, in the 5^th District of Herat City.

The building will have a rectangular plan with two storey volumes and external latrines, situated at one of the corners of the smaller courtyard, directly on the boundary. The project had a total cost of about 150.000 €.

The classrooms, 16 in number, 6x8 metres in dimensions, meet the requests of the local authorities, reconciling the available teachers with the great number of students by taking shifts. The school will have a well for drinking water and a septic tank to work as sewage system. For teachers’ latrines a new system is planned in order to have a partial waste disposal on the spot by filtering and partial processing of substances. The observation of the this new system will make possible to check the possibility to adapt the way of using the sanitation, as requested by this new type of fixture, and the opportunity to expand its application in all latrines inside rural buildings.

The Italian representative was composed by PRT Commander, Col. Michele Brandonisio, and the CIMIC-PRT Commander, Cap. Manuel Solastri. Local Authorities, constituted by Mr. Ghulam Hazrat Tanha, Chief of Education Department and many others, have shown their appreciation for Italian Contingent’s perform in general and for Civil Military Cooperation in particular.

All the local representatives have taken the opportunity to thank Italian PRT for his contribution to their Country’s reconstruction, with appreciation words that reflected their gratitude for our military’s operate in cooperation activities.

From March 2009 the PRT has started many projects in Education Sector, most of which are still on going. Until now, only in Education Sector, the PRT has completed the realization of a new building for Art Display of Sculptures and Paintings in the Central Library of Herat. Altoghether from year 2005 up today the Italian PRT has realize 34 new schools and has delivered equipment, for example chairs, table and teacher’s table, and other material necessary for children’s lessons.
